The surface keeps the natural perimeter of the timber, while the base sweeps out in arches beneath it. Together they give the table movement and balance, with the thick slab emphasizing that this is solid wood rather than a thin veneer over board.
The base takes the most work. Artisans shape the hardwood into curves that meet the underside of the top smoothly, then sand every section by hand. A protective finish adds depth and helps the surface handle daily use. Natural wood varies in grain, knots and coloring, so each table is unique.
Give it space on a large rug so the arches can be seen from the sofa and from across the room. Keep styling simple, perhaps a tray and a single vase, so the grain stays in view. Use coasters, wipe spills quickly and dust with a soft cloth to keep the finish looking its best.
Is the edge of the tabletop smooth?
The outline follows the natural shape of the wood, so it is irregular, but the surfaces are sanded smooth to the touch.
Does the base take up a lot of floor space?
The arches extend beneath the top rather than beyond it, so the footprint stays close to the listed width and depth.

The shape, size and finish match your selection, but solid wood has natural variations in grain, knots and tone, so no two pieces are identical. You see photos of your own piece before it is finished.
